The Michiana Jewish Historical Society is proud to announce 2023 as our YEAR OF THE STORY with the kickoff at our annual meeting on December 11, 2022, at 1:30 p.m. at The History Museum, 808 West Washington Street, just west of downtown South Bend.
The theme of the annual meeting is “Turning Points in Michiana Jewish History.” We’ll be moderating an in-person discussion with the men and women who were there for the big moments that shaped our local Jewish landscape. Panelists include Anne Feferman, Bill Gitlin, David Lerman, Bekki Lindow, Dave Ravitch & Judy Wein. We hope to see you there!
The Kurt and Tessye Simon Foundation and the Michiana Jewish Historical Society invite you to hear Adam Brown, Administrator of the AvotaynuDNA Project, speak on The Genetic History of the Jewish People.
Friday, December 9th at 5:30 PM via Zoom, as part of Temple Beth-El’s Kabbalat Shabbat service.
The Avotaynu DNA Project, an academic collaboration of scientists, genealogists and historians, is entering its third year of active DNA testing among Jewish communities on six continents. The project’s purpose is to utilize DNA to illuminate the origins and migrations of the Jewish People since its founding, which by tradition occurred more than 3,000 years ago.
Brown will discuss the latest findings revealing the genetic interconnectedness of current Jewish communities worldwide, as well as the fascinating diversity of their origins and migrations. You may remember that Brown was interviewed in the film Children of the Inquisition, shown at Temple last year.
The Michiana Jewish Historical Society depends on donations and grants to bring you programming we hope is relevant and interesting. MJHS does not receive funding from the Jewish Federation of St. Joseph Valley. It is a separate 501(c)(3) charitable organization and contributions are tax-deductible for income, gift, and estate taxes.
